Professional Supervision
Working together
Michelle is a Psychology Board Approved Supervisor, therefore, eligible to provide professional supervision to psychologists – from graduates to late career psychologists. Michelle understands the challenges of training and working as a psychologist and can offer a supportive space to navigate this journey.
Michelle’s therapeutic modality is person-centred and eclectic, which can include the following approaches:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT);
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT);
Schema Therapy;
Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR); and
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Michelle’s style of supervision is collaborative, reflective, and experiential. Supervisees are expected to take an active role in the supervision process by preparing and presenting case studies, reflecting on their practice, participating in role plays, and undertaking any necessary further education to achieve identified learning goals. While supervision can be challenging at times, it can be a rich opportunity for individualized professional development based on the supervisee’s specific learning goals and career stage.
Michelle finds “The 7-Eyed Supervision Model” (Hawkins & Shohet, 2012) a helpful lens to apply during supervision. It is a relational and systemic model that focuses on the perspectives of the supervisor, the supervisee and the supervisee’s client. It also considers broader systems that influence each of these perspectives eg. the client’s family, the supervisee’s workplace. It includes the exploration of transference and counter-transference issues which are important dynamics to consider during psychological therapy.
